All answers to this question are subjective at best. It depends on what kind of trading one is doing. If cost is a consideration, then you don't want to lay out a ton of money to buy a trading platform. If you trade only a couple of times a month or less, you don't want a brokerage that only gives good commission prices to high volume traders. If you are a technical trader, then you might want a firm that you can used directly from you trading program. Personally, I find TD Ameritrade to fill my needs in all of these areas, but there are other brokerages that may fill a different set of requirements. So, first determine what you need for a broker, then with that set of prerequisites in mind, condense them into as few words as possible and do a search. I guess I can't say enough about this platform that I have been using. Firetip is really easy to use. Also, I have an account at Generic Trade and only pay 59 cents commission for all my trades.

Try TD Ameritrade/thinkorswim. They have worked for me. Particularly, I like the API from thinkorswim.
